Wow what a weekend of catfights and shocking results, but no more shocking than Cheryl’s slightly demure look on Saturday night. Last week was all about “THAT” David Koma statement dress, so we expecting something equally spectacular, however this week Cheryl seems to have done a 180° turn, stepping out in a more modest black Jean Paul Gaultier Autumn/Winter 2009 sheath dress. Despite this, it was undeniably a gorgeous dress from the JPG ready-to-wear collection – inspired by a bit of S&M and complete with sheath, fishnets and a bit of kink, with the dresses being instantly recognisable because of the large X’s implanted across the bodices! Wearing huge chunky black platforms, Cheryl’s dress appeared to be slightly modified from the catwalk version with black crystals adding a bit of glamour and sparkle around the shoulders and shear X front. It was a classy, sexy, sleek and simple look; and who wouldn’t want a Jean Paul Gaultier LBD to pull out of their wardrobe – but this appeared to be a safe choice for Cheryl after last week and unfortunately a little forgettable.
Sunday night could have easily been overshadowed by the result, but it marked a return to colour and stunning outfits for Cheryl! She left the black behind and walked out in this striking Marios Schwab Fall 2009 shift dress. Known for his unique interpretations of the natural form, the dress came from a breathtaking collection of double-layer dresses in single silhouettes, Swarovski stones embedded in necklines, and dramatic pieces of tailoring where dresses broke open to reveal crystalline detailing. The dress Cheryl wore on Sunday was the silk sleeveless red look with a Swarovski crystal slash across the neckline and fold detailed bodice, which she teamed with nude platform heels to take nothing away from the dress.
Celebrities seem to have caught on to Marios Schwab, with fans including Sienna Miller wearing a non-crystal version of Cheryl’s dress for a screening earlier in the year, as well as Leighton Meester, the very cool Dasha Zhukova, Kate moss, Chloe Sevigny and Thandie Newton.
Cheryl looked gorgeous in what is a beautifully tailored dress, and like last week, her style was a firm nod towards the talent of young British designers.
