Aha. This post is in reply to all the direct messages we received on Twitter @cherylcolestyle asking how to get the sheer bodysuit top worn by Cheryl with her split harem pants and red, military Julien MacDonald jacket. A special mention too for Lorilee who contacted us direct.

im looking for the bodysuit or teddy that cheryl cole was wearing for her performance on x factor. she wore it with the harem trousers under her red military jacket.

It’s been a trek…but, by jove, I think we may have cracked it.

My spies tell me that what we all assumed to simply be a black, transparent, sheer body top that looks like a high-cut leotard….may in fact be an altered dress from the SS2010 Julien MacDonald collection. I will need to check this to be 100% certain…but this looks very likely at this stage.

Clearly, this daring choice of sheer, transparent top has garnered quite a bit of controversy.

Guardian journalist Emine Saner suggests that it is “the leotard that put the Cher into Cheryl Cole…essentially it’s Cher’s sheer, high-cut leotard she’s wearing” , whilst others have suggested it bears remarkable similarities to the leotard tops worn by “provocatively dressed” and ultimately ill-fated girl group, Kandy Rain.

Oh, and, ahem, I can’t even begin to tell you of the – how can I put this – more crude search terms that this top has engendered. I am sure you can imagine which bodyparts these were referring to!

I can’t find details of this transparent SS10 Julien Macdonald dress on sale as yet, but you can be sure that I will let you all know as soon as I do.
